List of 10 Best Universities in World 2011

Times Higher Education magazine finally released the names of best universities in the world in 2011. University which ranks the top ten, dominated by the university in the USA. The survey was conducted based on assessment of 13,388 academics, from 131 countries in the world. To maintain the quality and accuracy of the survey, an academic who can participate in the survey were limited to relatively tight, the academics who have published 50 papers, and has worked in universities for more than 16 years. The first position is held by the university is already very well known from the United States, namely Harvard University. The data also reinforce the report from the Financial Times magazine in 2010, which states that Harvard University is the world’s richest university.

1. Harvard University, USA.

Harvard University is the oldest university in the United States. Harvard name is taken from the last name of John Harvard, who is a prominent figure in the city Charteston. This figure is famous for its contribution to half his estate to Harvard university development. The university is very famous in the world, and highly respected by the existing educational institutions in the world. A graduate of Harvard University is a lot of people who become famous and successful in their respective fields. Students who study at this campus is not just limited to Americans only, but students come from more than 191 countries in the world. People who work at Harvard universities reached 14,000 people, who are members of more than 2,000 faculty on campus.

2. Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA.

Massachusetts Institute of Technology better known as MIT. MIT is a famous university as a leader in science and technology. In addition, the university is also famous for other fields including management, economics, linguistics, political science, and philosophy. Departments and schools of the most famous in this university is the Lincoln Laboratory, Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory, Media Lab, Whitehead Institute and the Sloan School of Management. There are 59 of the MIT members who have won Nobel Prizes. One of the graduates of this university is David Milliband who is prime minister of Britain.

University of Cambridge is one of the world’s oldest university and one of the largest in the UK. Reputation in outstanding academic achievement is known worldwide and reflects the intellectual achievement of students, as well as world-class original research carried out by staff of Universities and Colleges. Its reputation is supported by the Quality Assurance Agency and by other external reviewers learning and teaching, such as External Examiners. That high standards are the result of both learning opportunities on offer in Cambridge and extensive resources, including libraries, museums and other collections. Teaching consists not only of lectures, seminars and practical sessions led by people who are experts in their world, but also more personal teaching arranged through the Colleges. Many opportunities for students to interact with scholars from all levels, both formally and informally.

4. University of California, Berkeley, USA.

University of California, Berkeley, also known as Cal, UC Berkeley, The University of California, or Berkeley. The campus is the oldest campus of the University of  California  system. The University is a leader of a research university.  In 1960, the campus is famous for the birth of  Movement  Freedom of  Speech, which comes from student there, who were protesting United States involvement  in the Vietnam war. Califirnia University of  Berkeley  was founded  in 1868. Many of the professors of this university who have obtained a  nobel  prize.

5. Stanford University, USA.

Stanford University was founded by Leland Stanford and his wife, Jane Stanford. The university was founded to honor their only child, who died of typhus before her birthday the 16th. Stanford family visited several large university  to collect ideas and suggestions in building the  university. One of them is to visit the President of  Harvard. Stanford University is the top class of the famous campus in the world. Some majors is there is a school of Engineering, Law, Medicine, Education, Business, Earth Sciences, Humanities and Science.

In the past year, Oxford University in England ranked seventh, but this year moved up one rank to the position 6. As the name implies, this university is located in Oxford, England. Oxford University is the third oldest university, which is still growing in the world, and regarded as one of the leading institutions in the world of academia. One of the important history of this university is the event on in 1209, where a dispute between students and residents of the city of Oxford in the year. Some academics who fled to the Cambridge area, then they form a new university which is now known as University of Cambridge. So it can be concluded that the embryo of Cambridge University, comes from a former student of Oxford.

That’s the top 10 best universities worldwide. Will still be understandable if there are other pollsters who gave different results regarding the order of the best universities in the world. However, no doubt, the universities mentioned above almost always ranked top of the list of universities of the world’s favorite version of any institution. Maybe there are still many other universities in the world who also has a very high quality education system, we can see it in the best universities in the survey results next year.
